LECTURE NOTES
Lecture 1: Briefing
14/4/2020
For our first class, miss briefed us about the module and what we are going to work for the next few weeks.
INSTRUCTION
PROJECT 1A
For our first task, we were required to prepare a presentation on the definitions of "brand", "brand identity' and "branding". We were also required to have a case study on a well-established or a brand that you believe in their products / services.
The brand I decided to study is "Supreme" because I was really curious about how different their branding strategies were compared to other commercial products. Below is my presentation slides.
FEEDBACK
Week 1:
Specific Feedback: For the case study research that I did, miss said it was good that I included collaboration as one of the marketing ideas and my presentation was quite complete as well. She also mentioned that my explanation for the terms was elaborated well and thorough.

This book showed me how to develop an iconic brand identity from start to finish. It uses client case studies from renowned designers as samples for the readers. In the process, I discovered how designers create effective briefs, generate ideas, charge for their work, and collaborate with clients. They introduced popular designers like Paula Scher and also famous companies like Microsoft as examples.

REFLECTION
Week 1
- Experience - It was interesting that I was able to learn new terms for branding and realize how different brands actually work differently. As I chose a much more unique brand for my case study, Supreme, I realized that their branding worked in a different direction compared to commercial products. I learnt a lot from the case study as I was able to understand how Supreme was able to establish their strong brand image.
- Observation - I realized that when it comes to explaining and understanding terms, most of my classmates usually brush through the terms only and does not pay much attention to dig deeper into it. There were actually key differences in each terms for Brand, Brand Identity and Branding but it was not being clearly explained.
- Findings - I found out that brand and branding actually is not just how people remember your logo. The hard part is at how brands keep their logo design updated but still not missing their brand identity. It is crucial to redesign and refine their logo carefully as it takes a huge sum of money to publish it or change it.
