REFLECTION

Experience
Throughout these 14 weeks, I honestly felt like it was a roller coaster ride. I was constantly stressed and nitpicking on tiny details which I stress that might ruin my whole composition. I was constantly worn out by the competition, great work of my classmates and expectations from lecturers. There were times where I was just completely lost because I didn't even knew how to start on my work. But after all the struggles, I felt accomplished looking back at all the artworks I did. I started with absolute zero knowledge of typography or even Adobe software skills, but now I'm able to create various sort of designs. I felt proud when I knew that I acquired skills and knowledge of typography. I felt grateful that I was able to be guided by Mr Vinod and Mr Shamsul, they often give me ideas and guide me through whenever I was lost and clueless. Overall, although stressful, I learnt more than I expected in this class.

Observation
I realized that while compiling all my works and looking back at my blog. I observed that I was able to slowly view typography in a different point of perspective. Now whenever I walk down the streets, I take time to view and analyze the typography, typeface and compositions around me. I start to be more sensitive about alignments and compositions of text. In the beginning of the class, I often find myself comparing to people's work and getting stressed out over it. But now I realized that I've started comparing less but analyzing more. I realized that I started to focus more on doing research, read, taking down notes and understand the importance of getting the work started as soon as possible.

Findings
After 14 weeks of researching, studying, understanding and working with typography, I start to find out the importance of typography. Although right now my level of understanding about typography is still shallow but I would love to read more about typography and appreciate the small design details in typography. I also start to understand the quote "good designs are often less memorable" after I started noticing the typography around me. Overall, I realized how people are often not aware of the importance of good typography design even though it is everywhere in our daily lives.

Suggestions from me to improve the class :

For each of our projects, Mr Vinod could show us an example of the benchmark of our work, and compare between a good and bad work. Because if Mr Vinod only show one good work, often times students tend to copy the good work that is exhibited as sample in order to get marks.
