PROPOSAL

9/1/2020 (Week 1)

For the first week, my group wanted to work on the art of storytelling. We wanted to choose different mythology stories and using different storytelling techniques like animation and projection to enhance storytelling.

Feedback: Ms Anis and Mr Asrizal told us to not focus so much on our final product and work more on research. We are losing track of the mythology and thinking too much into end work. This loses our research value and purpose.

16/1/2020 (Week 2)

For the second week,

Feedback: Ms Anis said that our 7 topics are fine and we can choose 3 which we like. We should also know what we wanna talk about and what we want to focus on as our research direction.

For our second feedback session, Ms Anis said we just need to fix a few small problems like rephrasing our problem statement and questions to so that it is sounds more like a problem instead of a statement only.

23/1/2020 (Week 3)

For this week we have chosen the final 3 topics which we liked. The three topics are Kami structure, Jorogumo and Penis Festival.

Feedback: Ms Anis and Mr Asrizal told us we should fix the research questions on Penis festival as the shrine is quite far away from our location and we need to work around it. The topic regarding Jorogumo also requires some fixing as we need to pinpoint whether if we want to talk about advertising or product related to lust.

3 Final Topics:

Kami structure:
Japan has their own social structure which has the emperor on top and the commoners at the bottom. The reason behind this social structure simply lies on one mythology, which is the emperor is a direct descendant of Amaterasu, Goddess of Sun. However, Japanese does not seem to question about their emperor's status nor many of their social norm. Thus we grew curious about how Japanese against such norm and look into the troublemakers of Tokyo.

Jorogumo:
Jorogumo is a story about a spider whore who goes around luring young men who are desperate for lust and eventually traps them and consume them. It serves as a lesson to teach men on the danger of falling for lust in Japan. Not just mythologies, Japan has many other ways to educate and promote their depiction of lusts. Thus we look into how Japan design their depiction of lust, does it have a design or aesthetic value to it? or is it just purely made for lust?

Penis Festival:
Penis festival is an annual festival celebrated in Japan every year to celebrate on fertility and body health. They carry large penises around the town and even have statues of penises as worship symbols in their shrine. We would like to study behind the reason why they chose penis as their symbol and how the design or their festival merchandise would symbolize the festival?
