Final Project - Stop Motion
INSTRUCTION
FINAL PROJECT
For our final project, we were required to pair up with a classmate and create a 1 minute stop motion video. I paired up with Kar Yan and we discussed on things we wanted to do for the stop motion.
Pre-production
This is the idea which we initially came up with.
Animatics video :
However, after some discussions our video seem to be very realistic and does not really bring out the element of stop motion. So me and Kar Yan discussed again and changed some parts of our stop motion video.
Production
Me and Kar Yan started by creating the characters from clay. I was in charge of camera while Kar Yan is moves the puppet one by one. It was really hard for us since it was our first time and the clay dried up really easily and keeps cracking as well. Even though we started really early, we had to always work from 8 am to 8 pm continuously for the stop motion.
Post-Production
Video Editing
For the editing process of the video, Kar Yan is in charge of the video editing. She compiled the shots and edited it in Adobe Premier Pro.
Sound Editing
As Kar Yan is in charge of the video editing while I was in charge of sound editing. Although most of our sounds were sourced online, there were still plenty of sound effects where it didn't fit so we had to create our own foley sound effects.
Compiled sounds in google drive file :

Experience
Throughout this final project, it was really tough for both me and Kar Yan because we are still so new to stop motion and we are not really knowledgeable when it comes to animation. We struggled a lot working with the materials especially as the clay harden really easily and does not stand still. We spent the most time filming and editing the video together as it was really hard to get the clay move smoothly like humans. It was a lot of work considering all of our clay movements are mimicking human movements and sounds as well. Overall we learnt alot on working with stop motion and it was quite a fun experience.
