A DECISIVE MOMENT

For this project, we were given a story with the theme "Old Folks Home" by Mr Hafiz. Our task is to create a minimalistic artwork and an animated GIF which can either using a decisive moment of the story given or as a summary of the overall story.

The story which I gotten :
The story of my character is about a man who is being interviewed by some people. He talks about how he used to strand from place to place working different job and how he is just trying to search for happiness. He says that he finally found his happiness and it is in the old folk's house that he is currently living in.

Concept behind artwork :
So I wanted to show the artwork of a boat stranded in the middle of the sea (which symbolizes the old man who was lost in life trying to search for happiness) and a house with lights coming out to the boat (which symbolizes the happiness that the old man was searching for).

Work Progress :

I first started out by illustrating the house on an island and a boad in the sea. I used a bird eye view because it gives a wider space ratio of the sea to the boat which shows a really lonely feel to the boat.

After showing the Mr Hafiz, he helped me to adjust my light rays and also my sea waves so it seems for realistic.

I changed the shape of my island because the previous one seemed too round and doesn't look realistic.

I also changed the colour of the roof of the house so the shadow seem more appropriate compared to the previous one.

I adjusted the colour scheme using a colour palette for my artwork so it seems more harmonious.

I decided to added 2 different textures to my artwork. 

One is the grass texture on the island.

The second is the sea texture on the sea.

Outcome after adding textures :

I wanted to add something to my artwork to fill in the empty spaces in the artwork. So I thought of adding clouds.
