Future Imaginings
20/4/2019
In conjuction with wREGA annual general meeting for the year 2019, Taylor's Design School have organised a workshop for students and the public. The speakers of the event were
- Chong Yan Chuah - An architect and motion art designer
- Paul Koh - Managing director of Kezerk Innovations
- Keith Song & Teoh Khah Swee from Mosesism
The workshop begin with Miss Sherry Blankenship's introduction about the speakers, workshop and presentation about Kreatif Beats.
The presenter representing Mosesim talks about the crafts they specialize in which are wire crafts, and also how the industry of crafting is like.
A few key points to take away from the talk :
- Craft is all about man-made, not machine, not robots, but crafted with our own hands. It may change with technology, such as using new tools to assist us. But the craft should not entirely be done with machines.
- In our new society, the purpose and the value of objects are increasing drastically, but the craft dies.
- The presenter said he prefers to call himself a crafter instead of a designer so he wouldn't have worry about having a superb design all the time and just focus on doing what he loves and crafting as a hobby.
- Because their wire craft is still new in South East Asia, they often receive questions about whether if it's too exaggerating or weird to wear such accessories. They replied "It's yours if your wear it confidently".
Opinion :
I quite enjoyed their presentation about their works but I wished they could've exhibited more of their crafts on the stage and talked more about how their works are in the industry instead of just promoting their crafts.

The next presenter was Chong Yan Chuah.
Highlights of his presentation :
- One of the videos shows how the future would look like after adding special effects into our current world.
- The other video was a animation which shows an entire planet that he created himself including the ecosystem, the weather, landscape, civilization.
- He also added a narrative and animated the video from the perspective of an outsider who landed on that foreign planet, so that it seemed more believable and interesting.
Opinion :
His videos were very entertaining and interesting but I wished he could've explained further about the contents of the videos such as the planet he created, the colour schemes, some hidden details in the videos that the audience might not know instead of just showing it to us and moved on to the next thing.
The third and final presenter is from Kezerk Innovations.

Highlights of the presentation.
- The presenter showed a number of works they did and behind the scenes of how the set up the whole exhibition.
- He also showed us a sneak peek of their upcoming work and the softwares they used and demonstrated how does the software functions

Opinion :
Their presentation is by far my most favourite because they showed quite a number of the works they did for the clients, each with a different type of technology included and explained how it works. I absolutely loved the part when he showed us his sneak peek for his upcoming work and how it functions cause not just it introduced me to a brand new software that I've never seen before, it also shows me that this is how the industry level works with softwares and it really excites me.
The event ended with a Q&A session with the audience and the presenters.
